新加坡的人口有500万，在世界各地都有新加坡人。你去外国时，曾经听过别人用 auntie ,uncle来称呼年纪比自己大的人吗？或者有人用新加坡式的语言（singlish )？你一听到有人说新加坡式的语言，就会知道他是新加坡人了。新加坡式的英语除了英语，句子里还夹杂了许多新加坡当地语言的词汇，例如福建话、马来话、华语等。这是我们独特的混合语，独特的沟通方式。
记得在两年前，我到日本去。在路上，我看到一群人表演街舞，我就去凑热闹。我看到其中一个表演者翻筋斗，禁不住喊道：“他好steady ah！”这时，周围的人都用奇怪的眼神看着我，我觉得很不好意思。还有一次，我到咖啡店时，卖咖啡的阿姨问我：“小妹！你要drink 什么？”
我觉得新加坡人用新加坡式的语言已经成为习惯，而且能够说得很流利。新加坡人用这种语言沟通，会感到非常亲切。当然使用新加坡式的语言，也有它的坏处。虽然新加坡使用的英语是独一独二的，只可以在新加坡听到，可是别的国家的人未必能听得懂我们在说什么，这可能会造成很多误会。我们可以尝试不要用太多新加坡式的语言，因为用太多的话，在考试时你一不小心，写在考卷中就错了，非常可惜！
作为新加坡人的特点，我认为新加坡式的语言值得保留。但是，我们用的时候要看场合和对象，尤其是和外国人沟通的时候，就要用正确标准的语言。
When you are in a foreign country and you hear someone using the endearing Singlish, you know for sure that he is a Singaporean. Singlish is our unique way of peppering any English sentences with words or phrases from local dialects such as Hokkien or Teochew. 大部分的人都知道新加坡人很喜欢投诉，总爱说这个不好、那个不好。究竟是为什么呢? 新加坡人除了怕输，也很喜欢投诉。他们总是喜欢投诉工作时间很长、薪水不够、没办法跟孩子沟通等等。他们经常投诉的另外一点就是屋价太高。他们说政府鼓励他们生孩子，可是屋价太高，没办法买屋子养孩子。
It has been said that Singaporeans like to complain about everything. They complain about their long working hours, meagre salary and expensive HDB flats. Some Singaporeans feel that the government does not care about their needs. Take for example, there are parents who will write letters of complaint to MOE, about their child having too much homework and that teachers are not good.
Parents will also complain if their child is scolded by a teacher, not realising that their child may be at fault.
Madam Goh Lee Ming was one such Singaporean who had lodged a complaint before, not to the government but to a taxi company. She complained about a taxi driver who had taken a longer route to reach her destination one day.
When she told the taxi driver off, he shouted at Miss Goh, saying that it was her fault. The company gave her a $10 voucher as compensation.
When Singaporeans complain, the government or any relevant organisations will always note down their opinions and offer solutions. It is nice to know that their complaints have been heard.

新加坡人总是嫌政府没为人民着想，没有满足他们的要求，便时时想要投诉。有些父母有时还会写投诉信给教育部长，说他们的孩子有很多功课和补习，没有快乐的童年。有些家长也会投诉学校老师没有把学生教好。如果孩子被老师骂，他们更要投诉了，也不先弄清楚自己的孩子有没有犯错。
吴丽敏女士说她曾经投诉一名德士司机。她说她从新达城乘坐德士到宏茂桥去。那名司机竟然走了一大圈。到了宏茂桥，那名司机竟然不知道目的地在那里。当吴女士上车的时候，他还跟司机确认过。那位司机还说她知道，可是到了宏茂桥，他却不知道。那位司机不但不认错，还对吴女士大声讲话。吴女士直接跟德士公司的老板投诉。那位司机的公司最后给了吴女士十块钱的礼券。吴女士说她投诉不是为了要得到礼券，而是希望那位司机会改进态度。
新加坡人虽然很喜欢投诉，但是他们投诉后，政府或有关机构会尽量听取他们的意见来改进。如果是这样的话，投诉就变得有意义了。
新加坡虽然人口越来越多，但是到处还是可以看到有人排队，例如巴士站、小贩中心、厕所等，所以秩序相当良好。
我在新加坡看到的最长的队伍是新年前人们在林志源肉干店排队买肉干的情景。那些人平均排队要排至少六个小时才能买到三公斤的肉干。有些人为了打发时间，会带报纸、书本和小凳子去，有些甚至带帐篷去休息，真是有备而来。有些新加坡人看到有人排队时，不知道别人在排什么，就毫不犹豫地冲上去跟着排。他们难道排队上了瘾？
我记得有一次，我在国外时，看到一些当地人没有排队，就冲进巴士里。那些正在排队的人（多数是外国人）都被吓得不知所措。我还记得有一次，我正在排队买鱼圆面，突然，两个青年就冲进队伍里，把正在排队的人都气坏了。我觉得插队给人的印象不好。因为如果我们在国外也这样，会毁掉国家的名誉，而且我们自己也会很丢脸。
我们应该保留排队的好习惯，希望未来几十年里，新加坡人还会继续排队，让我们的社会更优雅。
Although Singapore’s population is increasing, it is still quite orderly, as we see people queuing up, for example at bus stops, hawker centres and even toilets.
The longest queue that I had ever seen in Singapore was before the Lunar New Year at Lin Chee Guan Bak Kua Store in Chinatown. Each person queued for at least six hours to buy the delicacy. Some people brought reading materials to kill time and
I think we give others a bad impression when we cut queue. If we do so overseas, we will tarnish our country’s reputation and we will lose face.
I think we should continue to cultivate good habits such as queuing. It makes our country a better place and the society a gracious one.

An incident occurred when I was in a queue to buy fishball noodles at a hawker centre near my home. Two youths decided to cut the queue. The people who were behind were angry at tham.

我们新加坡人个个都怕输，但是你知道“怕输”的意思吗？“怕输”的意思就是样样都要得第一！比如学生在考试之前一直做很多练习，不想输给别的同学。家长们更怕输了，一定要让自己的孩子超过别人。比如有一次，我在巴士上看到一位小男生在 复习，他的妈妈在一旁督促他。父母们现在连一分一秒都不肯放过。他们以为这样可以让孩子多学习，可是家长们其实是给了孩子太多压力。
除了在学习上，国人在日常生活中也表现得很怕输。有一次，我在小贩中心看到有两个人把两包纸巾放在椅子上霸住位子。我觉得这两人非常怕输，他们因为怕没位子坐，又想一起去买食物以节省时间，就用这样的方法霸住位子。我觉得他们应该让一个人留下来，另一个人先去买食物。
又有一次，我在地铁上 看到在地铁月台上的人都争先恐后，要挤进地铁车厢里。我觉得大家应该多为别人着想，不要这么怕输。
我认为如果新加坡人在国外也这样，会给那个国家的人留下不好的印象。比如有一次在韩国，我看到新加坡人去吃自助餐，他们拿了很多食品，却吃不完。我觉得他们非常怕输，因为他们不想“浪费”自己的钱，所以拼命地“吃够本”，我觉得那是不正确的。
我认为新加坡人这种怕输的精神不应该保留，因为怕输的人往往自私自利，而新加坡要成为优雅社会，国人就必须多为别人着想。
Singaporeans are ‘kiasu’ which means they want to be number one in all situation. Take for example, before an examination, a student does lots of revision practices because he does not want to lose out to other students. Usually he takes after his parents who are even more kiasu. One can consider this kiasu trait to be beneficial. However, too much stress is unhealthy for anyone.
Singaporeans are also kiasu in other aspects of their lives. Some will reserve seats at a hawker centre with packets of tissues so as
not to waste time and to ensure that those seats are available when required.
The kiasu Singaporeans on overseas trip will usually leave a bad impression on people they meet. Once, in Korea, a group of Singaporeans were having buffet at a restaurant. They piled their plates with lots of food to make their money worth but a lot of the food ended up as waste.This behaviour is definitely undesirable.

You might have heard Singaporeans using the word ‘kiasu’ in their sentences. What exactly does it mean? It is a Hokkien word, which means ‘afraid to lose’. When someone is afraid to lose, he will become very anxious over small matters. Actually ‘kiasu’ can be a positive Singaporean characteristic. 新加坡人常用“怕输”这个词语。这个词语源自福建话“kiasu”，“kia”是“怕”，而“su”是“输”。
当一个人怕输的时候，他会变得很紧张，常常为了小事而过度准备。其实怕输是一个很好的特点，因新加坡是一个竞争力很强的国家，新加坡人必须要求自己做得最好，但可惜这是唯一的好处。通常怕输的人会自私地追求成果，比如：第一时间拿到最好的消息或物品，或者为了达到目的而不择手段，不为他人着想。
怕输已经成为新加坡人的特点。在小贩中心，人们因为要“抢”座位就放纸巾霸位，以免位子被其他人抢去。还有，等地铁的时候，你会常常看到新加坡人第一时间冲进车厢内抢位子坐，没有先让里面的人出来。
新加坡人怕输的特点给别人留下不好的印象。我觉得新加坡人应该改掉这个缺点，不然新加坡会成为一个很冷漠、没有礼貌的国家。
政府应该多推广为他人着想的精神，多发掘真人真事，公开一些善心人士的行为和举动，让其他人效仿。希望在不久的将来，新加坡会成为优雅的社会。
This ‘kiasu’ behaviour often leaves a bad impression on others. The government should organise campaigns to promote thoughtfulness and consideration for others. It can also promote real life Singaporean stories with elements of thoughtful and kind behaviour in order to encourage others to behave well. Hopefully, in the near future, Singapore will become a more gracious nation.

我住在榜鹅。榜鹅位于新加坡本岛东北部，属于尚未完全发展的新镇组屋地区。榜鹅的环境很优美，是一个很好的居住的地方。我家对面有很多餐厅。有时我一个人在家没有人煮饭给我吃，我就用自己的钱去买食物吃，我觉得很方便。我家的楼下有一个读书角落，我也能在那里做功课。从读书角落走过去，有一个游乐场。游乐场附近还有一个运动场。运动场很大，设备也齐全，有很多运动机供大家做运动。我觉得榜鹅是最好的。这里又美丽又热闹，有机会来住吧!

我的家就住在碧山，它位于宏茂桥以南。碧山的名字源自一个名为碧山亭的广东籍坟场。该坟场于1870年由来自广州、惠州和肇庆的移民所建立，而我所住的新市镇正正就建筑于旧坟场之上。
碧山镇的碧山公園，它的设计不仅拿到最佳设计奖，到访的游客每年超过三百万。
我常和家人在周末到公园散步、跑步、骑脚车等等。在公园里面，2.7千米的垂直排水系统已经被改建成蜿蜒于整个公园的3千米的流水系统。它还设有水位线，保证了水的最大供给。同时在原有的公园结构上增加了三个操场、一个新的景观节点以及餐厅等，沿着河流的绿地还保证了公园的生态循环。
碧山附近有很多设施 如：购物中心，图书馆，游泳池。交通也非常方便有：地铁，巴士总站。
我喜欢这里，这里是独一无二的。

我住在碧山，我的叔叔也住在碧山，他告诉我碧山占地面积大约是三十三平方公里。
新加坡有许多美丽的景点，但我个人觉得最美的是碧山公园。碧山公园里有许多美丽的花草树木，很适合大家在这里野餐。我也常常跟家人一起来这里散步。

我觉得跟家人和朋友在一起是一件很幸福的事。我喜欢在空闲的时候跟家人谈天说地，也喜欢跟朋友一起玩游戏。虽然这都是些很简单的事，但是只要有他们的陪伴，每一刻我都感到很快乐。
我们的生命皆由时间构成。时间很宝贵，我们不应该浪费。我们应该好好珍惜在我们身边的人，才不会在失去他们后感到遗憾。当我跟家人和朋友在一起的时候，我很感谢上天给了我这么好的福气。我想我现在已经够幸福了，所以感到很知足。我的生活中因为有他们，才能过得如此精彩！

我觉得家人和朋友对我来说是非常重要的人。因为他们在我有困难的时候帮助我，也在生活上带给了我很多欢乐。
我最喜欢跟家人一起去国外旅行，我们一起去探险，一起去欣赏别的国家的美景，这些都是难忘的回忆。当然，也少不了到国内的环球影城玩个痛快！当我跟朋友在一起的时候，我们喜欢去郊游，接近大自然，呼吸新鲜的空气。我们也能更加了解对方，拉近彼此之间的感情。
如果下次有机会的话，我还想跟家人和朋友一起去海滩玩耍，一起游泳和钓鱼，度过愉快的一天。

我和妹妹最喜欢咖椰烤面包。我们常常在早上或休息时去Toast Box吃。咖椰面包片里有牛油和咖椰，每次我们吃的时候，都边吃面包边吃生熟蛋，然后再喝一杯美禄，这是我们最喜欢的搭配了。每次我们都会吃得开开心心的。

我爱吃鸡饭因为鸡饭实在是太好吃了。鸡饭包括鸡肉，饭和辣椒。我们可以在餐馆或咖啡店吃到鸡饭，但每个地方的鸡饭的味道是不一样的，有些地方的鸡饭好吃，有些不好吃。有时候，我看到有些人吃不完那些鸡肉就丢掉，我觉得很可惜。但我们也不可以吃太多鸡饭，因为鸡饭很油，不太健康。

农历新年除夕，我们一家人一起吃团圆饭。第一道菜就是“捞鱼生”，妈妈说捞鱼生喻意着事事顺利。在大盘里有生鱼片，鱼象征了年年有余。除了鱼片，还有红萝卜丝、黄瓜丝、白萝卜丝和脆饼等，再加上一些调味料，好吃极了！
我们吃的时候，一起用筷子把食材夹得高高，高喊一些吉利的话，然后全家人一起高高兴兴地用餐。

国人早上一般喜欢在咖啡店或小贩中心吃经济炒米粉面，加上一杯营养丰富的豆奶，然后开始一天繁忙的工作或学习生活，我也不例外。
我喜欢在米粉面上加上一个煎蛋、一条五香肉卷和一块乌打。你也许会问什么是乌打？乌打就是用鱼肉泥与香料混合，放进香蕉叶包裹拿去炊蒸的食品，有点辣，非常好吃。
